Railer girls struggle on offense, but win

The defense was there for the Newton High School girls’ basketball team, but the offense was challenged the entire game in a 46-40 win over Hays Saturday afternoon in the third-place game of the Hays City Shootout.

Six Indians on WAC first team

Through the first five weeks of the season, the Hays High School football program started 4-1 with a 24-21 loss to Garden City and four victories against squads that finished a combined 8-29.

The 2011 girls high school golf season will conclude today with state tournaments at four locations, including the Class 5A state meet at Smoky Hills Country Club in Hays.

Sacred Heart debaters compete

Debaters from Sacred Heart High School competed in recent tournaments in Salina and in Hays. At the Salina Central High School novice tournament, the team of Kate Schieferecke and Sara Vandervoort placed first, with a record of 4-0.
