Salina Central senior Taylor Swanson knew it was only a matter of time, but time was starting to run out. The 12-foot pole vault barrier had turned into a mental block and with the state meet just three weeks away, she was determined if not overly confident.

NEWTON — The results were all too familiar, which only made it all the more frustrating. Salina Central, a team that had mixed results all season when trying to close out an opponent, couldn't put away Liberal when it had the chance.
