Signs around Salina Central High School remind students that the building is a “hat-free zone” during the school day, but exceptions were being made Tuesday for members of the girls' basketball team, which is headed to state playoffs starting Thursday in Topeka.

After 16 consecutive postseason losses, the Salina Central girls' basketball team wasn't about to take any chances, even though the outcome of Thursday's Class 5A sub-state game against Goddard Eisenhower wasn't really in doubt.
